Metinvest became the general partner of the project “Enterprise-2020: Role of Businesses in Society”
“Enterprise-2020: Role of Businesses in Society” is the development of the national strategic vision initiated by the Centre for the Development of Social Responsibility, the Ukrainian leading expert organization in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the framework of the National Initiatives to Enhance Reforms (UNITER) program. The EU strategy “Europe 2020” and the project of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development “Vision 2050” were the basis for the development of this initiative in Ukraine.
The initiative to develop the strategic vision “Enterprise-2020” should reflect the public role of business development in Ukraine and give the answer to the question what vector of its development and social and environment perspectives the society sees in a decade - in 2020.
Main objectives of the project:
- Generalize the experience in strategic planning of the most successful companies in Ukraine
- Develop the national model of cooperation between businesses and the society that will make the companies strive to take into consideration the social and environment issues when they develop their business strategies
The project was launched in Kyiv on August 30, 2011. It consists of several stages including the creation of task groups with the representatives of the ministries and agencies, the largest Ukrainian companies and banks, public observers, the representatives of social development institutes and experts. The following stages of the project include the formation of the road map for development of Ukrainian enterprise 2020, then there will be stages of round table discussions, a series of television and regional discussions in various Ukrainian cities (Lviv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Simferopol, Kharkiv), implementation of social projects in the country’s regions and, finally, the international conference “Enterprise 2020-2050: European prospect for Ukrainian companies”.
As Metinvest, being the leader of the mining and steel making industry, has a prospective vision and the established long-term strategy aimed at the company’s sustainable growth, this project will become a platform for exchange of experience and practical interaction.
Participation in issuing of CSR educational practices brochure for students from Central and Eastern Europe
At the beginning of 2010, the project aimed at development of educational cases in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Central and Eastern Europe started in Ukraine and was supported by the European Academy of Business in Society. The CSR Ukraine Community, a non-governmental organization, became the project monitor in Ukraine. The project involved the companies from Poland, Hungary, Russia and Ukraine. Metinvest’s innovational educational program “School – University – Enterprise” was selected to participate in the first stage of the project as an example of the effective interaction of business and education.
The project partner, the Business School of the Lviv Catholic University, visited Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, being the program developer, and conducted a series of interviews will all of the project participants. After that, they prepared the business case consisting of educational materials for students and a manual for teachers. Metinvest’s business case, along with the other practices of the project participants, will enter the collection of the best CSR practices to be included in the educational programs of business schools in Central and Eastern Europe.
At the conference “Development of responsible leadership in Central and Eastern Europe” sponsored by Metinvest, that took place on December 2, 2010 in Lviv, Metinvest, the Ukrainian Association for Development of Management and Business Education and the CSR Ukraine Community signed the Memorandum on the inclusion of this case in the new CSR educational course. this course will be taught in leading higher educational institutions of Ukraine beginning with 2012. The introduction of business cases in the educational process will give the students of business schools and universities the opportunity to gain knowledge about the CSR practices that proved their efficiency, which will later enable them to disseminate these socially responsible approaches in other companies in Central and Eastern Europe.
Based on the conference results, in the autumn of 2011, the Lviv Business School published “Competencies of responsible leaders in Central and Eastern Europe” brochure.
The publication represents a successful combination of theory and practice: the results of the analysis conducted in the sphere of competencies and responsibilities “Development of the future global leaders”, in the frame of which companies function nowadays, and the examples of companies and business schools’ successful experience in this area.
In the publication, Metinvest presented the best examples of its practices aimed at the competence development: training of internal trainers who teach HSE corporate standards, and implementation of programs aimed at increasing the efficiency of social investment.

Metinvest became the general partner and participant of the Ukrainian Forum “Youth and Business” held by the international youth organization “AIESEC”
The Forum held on November 16, 2011, in Lviv, gathered over 300 representatives of active student youth from 19 cities of Ukraine and the representatives of businesses and non-governmental organizations.
The Forum was devoted to two principal issues important for businesses and society today – Business innovations and Corporate social responsibility. At the Forum, Metinvest made a presentation on the company’s social partnership programs and presented the best examples of business practices aimed at the development of social and economic resources and the professional potential of local communities.
The Forum became an interactive platform for meetings and communications of young leaders from various cities all over Ukraine, for the formation of educational environment and suggestions of solutions and ideas for certain cases in the sphere of innovations and CSR.
