Metinvest has become one of the three best Ukrainian companies according to the results of first in Ukraine Companies’ Transparency Index, held by Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility Development.
Ukraine Companies’ Transparency Index was launched in November 2011 based on methodology of “Beyond Business” organization. Metinvest has taken second place and entered top-10 of the most transparent companies worldwide.
The investigation was held within Ukraine National Initiatives to Enhance Reforms (UNITER) Project that is implemented by Pact and financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). It involved over 100 Ukrainian companies - the largest marker players.
Ukrainian Index top-10 list is presented by DTEK, Metinvest, Obolon, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, System Capital Management, Kyivstar, Interpipe, Ernst&Young Ukraine, METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine, Concern Galnaftogaz
The main feature of the Index is its objective and open evaluation, which can be tested by anyone, as all information can be easily accessed in the internet. Besides, all companies from top-10 list have nonfinancial reports, detailed description on social and environmental projects implementation and up-to-date navigation at corporate websites.
Metinvest participation in the first Ukrainian CSR Marketplace
In November 2010 Metinvest took part in the first Ukrainian CSR initiatives exhibition – CSR MarketPlace, organized by the CSR development center. The exhibition displayed projects and programs implemented by the Company in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
By the results of CSR MarketPlace readers’ choice, Metinvest’CSR report took the second place among the best non-financial reports in Ukraine.
Metinvest also shared experience with the participants of the exhibition regarding the CSR report preparation process and presented social projects targeted at potential employees of the Company and pensioners: Azovstal Project “School – University – Enterprise” and “Training of internal HSE trainers”.
The First National CSR Business Case Contest
In autumn 2009, 4 enterprises of Metinvest Group took part in the First National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Business Case Contest. Leading Ukrainian and international companies submitted 43 CSR case studies to the competition.
The Contest was aimed at promotion of innovative approaches and solutions implemented by companies in the field of corporate social responsibility, and conveying the best practices to the educational curricula of the Universities and business schools. The international jury guaranteed impartiality of the competition and objective winner selection. The jury was comprised of the leading experts from Poland, Turkey, UK, Belgium, Norway, Ukraine, USA, and Austria.
Two of the four Metinvest enterprises participating in the competition won prizes in different categories:
Inguletskiy mining and processing plant (Ingulestkiy GOK) won the second prize of the contest for the case-study on creation of Visirka Landscape Reserve at the territory of its open-pit-mines. The enterprise has been working on this project since 2001.
CSR practice of Azovstal Iron and Steel Works was recognized the best in the nomination Labor Relations for the implementation of its educational program called «School–University–Enterprise».
The best case studies were included into the book “Collection of CSR Practices of Ukrainian Companies”, which will be used by Ukrainian Universities as a study guide. In addition to the case studies mentioned above, the book will also include the case studies of two other Metinvest enterprises participated in the contest: Severniy GOK — the Residential Neighborhood Comprehensive Reconstruction Project (Damansky) in Krivoy Rog and Krasnodoncoal - the Coal Mine Methane Utilization Project implemented within the framework of Kyoto Protocol mechanisms.
