Large scale production modernization projects being carried at the companies of the Division are designed to provide for the significant reduction of the negative impact of the production the environment may be is exposed to.

In the framework of the development strategy of Steel and rolled products division the significant part of the outdated and environmentally unsafe equipment will be dismantled or replaced by modern units incorporating all the necessary means and technologies to secure our attaining to the highest possible level of environmental protection in the regions of our presence.

Major directions of the Division’s environmental protecting activities include:

• Atmosphere protection and reduction of green house gases emissions
  use of modern gas-cleaning and dust trapping equipment to provide reduction of emission of contaminating harmful substances at sinter and BF production, steelmaking and rolling facilities, constant control and monitoring of air conditions on the boundaries of buffer areas of the plants, introduction of up-to-date energy saving technologies.
• Water basin protection
  use of closed technological cycle preventing water pollution with dirty tail waters.
• Production wastes recycling
  including recycling of BF and steelmaking wastes and sludges.
