Steel and rolled products division unites the steelmaking, rolled products and SAW pipes manufacturing enterprises of METINVEST HOLDING. The companies of the division produce 10.8 Mt of crude steel, over 11 Mt of rolled products and about 600 Kt of SAW large diameter line pipes annually.
Starting May 1st 2008, Jack MacLachlan, Chief Operating Officer, has been acting as Director of the Division.
Azovstal Iron and Steel Works being the leading company of the steelmaking wing of the Group is ranked second among world class suppliers of steel concast slabs in terms of volume. The company is the only producer of high quality railroad rails in Ukraine.
Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works (Yenakievo Steel Group or Yenakievo Steel) is one of the world leading concast billet producers.
Khartsyzsk pipe plant is CIS largest producer of single seam large diameter (up to 1422 mm or 56”) longitudinally welded line pipes used in construction of oil and gas pipelines worldwide.
In Europe Metinvest is represented by Ferriera Valsider – an Italian re-rolling company. The acquisition of Bulgarian Promet Steel and two plate producers in EU (Trametal in Italy and Spartan in the UK) is to be accomplished soon.
Ferriera Valsider SpA is an Italian rerolling company producing carbon steel plate and hot-rolled coil with production volume of more than 500 Kt of flat rolled products annually.
Promet Steel is a modern rerolling plant in Bulgaria manufacturing long products (rebar, debar, shapes and bars, structurals). Promet Steel with Makeyevka Steel alike were acquired by Metinvest Group as a result of merger of mining and metals assets of SCM and Smart Holding in September 2007. Promet Steel will join the Group after the merger is approved by the relevant authorities of the EU and Bulgaria that is anticipated soon.
On November 12th, 2007 Metinvest signed the definitive share purchase agreement to acquire from the Malacalza family 100% interest in Trametal SpA and Spartan UK Ltd. The transaction was accordingly approved by European Commission as the one meeting general market principles and regulations of the European Economic Zone. The completion of the transaction is anticipated soon.
Trametal and Spartan UK are two modern producers of high quality carbon steel heavy plates located in Italy and Great Britain respectively. The combined annual capacity of the plants exceeded 536 Kt of plate (as of 2006).
We are planning to combine in the nearest future Trametal and Spartan with our existing Italian steel-rolling company, Ferriera Valsider SpA, thereby creating a company with more than 1 million metric tons of plate rolling capacity in the European Union. The procedure will have been accomplished during the 1Q 2008.
